GIVEN CIRCUMSTANCES

  • Just back from a scsesful war, time to celebrate
  • excited to see Hero again, wasnt in the mindset to start a romance before the war didn' have the chance to consider it. Now the war is over there is space in my head to think about settling down.
  • the hard times are behind me
  • over the war bonded strongly with Benedick and become closer with Don Pedro, the three of us has become a sort of trio.
  • niave and gulliable
  • romantic and passionate
  •

Claudio has just come back from a successful war, not only has not lost any men but has received lots of praise from his commanders, and he is now on his way to a safe place to party and relax. All these things are very good and I need to portray that Claudio is happy currently in life, this requires a lot of consistent energy. Enjoys living a bachelor but is becoming tired of the life style, seeking a deeper relationship, and subsequently falls in love with Hero.

When entering the palace at the beginning, Claudio is relived and excited, he can finally relax. This needs to be shown through my physicality. Its also boiling hot, so to portray this use the fountain to cool yourself down.

When in the first scene generate a connection with Hero. Use eye contact and be very in love with her. This doesn't need much rehearsal, as it will be most effective when it feels fresh and natural. These moments of connection between Claudio and Hero continue throughout the play, we must make it seem we are in our own world whilst paying attention to the scene happening on stage. This is because there are moments when we break from our own world and react to the scene, we have to make sure we don't detract from the focal point of the scene, not doing anything too bold so the audiences focus stays on the centre of the scene.
